Synopsis

In a dying Rust Belt town, lifelong friends Alex, Jordan, Sam, Riley and Taylor meet every night in the same basement to drink, vape, and stall adulthood. When a midnight dare to break into their shuttered high school spirals into a chase with security and a stolen yearbook full of secrets, their perfect stasis cracks open. As dawn bleeds in, old crushes surface, betrayals sting, and each must decide if hanging out forever is worth never becoming anyone. The next 48 hours turn the group inside out: a stolen car, an unexpected funeral, a lakeside confession, and one last reckless party that burns every bridge. By the final sunrise, some stay, some leave, and the basement feels smaller than ever. A love letter to the lost years between childhood and everything else, the film captures the ache and electricity of friends who know they’re already saying goodbye.

The story

Act I

Alex gathers the crew in their unchanging basement for another aimless night of pizza and jokes. A stupid dare sends them sneaking into the abandoned high school where they find a time-capsule yearbook that reignites every buried secret.

Act II

Security chases them, a stolen car leads to a funeral for a forgotten classmate, and simmering tensions explode: Jordan’s hidden crush on Alex, Sam’s secret job offer out of town, and Riley’s realization that Taylor has been planning to leave all along.

Act III

At a final lakeside bonfire they burn the yearbook and their excuses. Some drive away at dawn, others stay behind, and the basement door closes on an era that can never be reopened.

INT. BASEMENT - NIGHT

Fluorescent light flickers over a sagging couch. Empty cans and an open pizza box litter the floor. ALEX (23) holds court, beer in hand.

ALEX
Same time tomorrow?

JORDAN scrolls their phone in the corner. SAM laughs too loud. RILEY and TAYLOR share a joint by the window.

SAM
We could actually do something for once.

ALEX
We are doing something. We’re hanging out.

TAYLOR exhales smoke toward the ceiling.

TAYLOR
One day this basement is gonna be a parking lot.

Nobody answers. The silence stretches just long enough to feel like a warning. Alex raises his can.

ALEX
To nothing changing.

They clink cans. The basement light buzzes, then dies.

Why now

Post-pandemic twentysomethings are staring down a stalled economy and infinite scrolling that promises connection but delivers only stasis; this film turns that collective limbo into a raucous, aching anthem for the exact moment when hanging out stops feeling like freedom and starts feeling like surrender.
